Entrance
The Basilica di Sant'Ambrogio is located in a pedestrian area (at present the surrounding area has works in progress due to the new line of the underground). The entrance of the Basilica is preceded by a four-sided portico in paving stones.
From piazza Sant'Ambrogio you reach the portico through two sets of 3 steps (14 cm and 16 cm) or through a secondary entrance (left side of the portico), where there are two consecutive rubber ramps (slope of 17% and 22%). From the portico it is possible to enter the church from two side doors. The side entrance on the left has 2 steps (13 cm) and a hinged door (118 cm wide). The side entrance on the right  has a ramp (slope of 6%) and a hinged door (115 cm wide).
You can also enter the Basilica from the entrance in Via Lanzone 30/a. Once overcome the wide door in Via Lanzone (open during church opening hours) you follow the pedestrian passage covered of paving stones. The side entrance has 4 steps (16 cm) followed by a double-leaf door (80 cm wide each). People with disabilities can use the stairlift to the left of the steps (ask the bookshop staff for the key).
To reach the central nave you must overcome an inclined ramp (slope of 6,6%).

Accessibility for people with sensory disability
A descriptive panel (h 85 cm from ground level) contains a description of the church in Italian and English and with Braille characters. The central part of the panel has a plan in relief (for a better orientation inside the church) and visual and tactile elements complete the representation of the façade. By scanning the QR code or NFC with a smartphone, visitors can access information in different formats: audio for visually impaired visitors and video with subtitles and a translation into LIS (Italian sign language) for people who are hearing impaired. After a short introduction on the history of the building, there is a description of the church, its façade and its works of art.

The entrance is preceded by a large portico from which you can admire the façade and the bell towers of the Basilica. The Basilica's naves are accessible. To access the side chapels  you must overcome 5 consecutive steps (16 cm each). To access the Cappella della Deposizione, on the right nave, it is necessary to overcome a hinged door (117 cm wide) and a short ramp.
From the right nave you can also access: the Sant'Ambrogio's Treasure, after 5 steps (16 cm each, handrail on the left), the Cappella del Sacro Cuore, after 5 steps (17 cm each, handrail on the left) and the San Vittore's Chapel, after 4 steps (16 cm each).
