Parking
It is possible to park in a garage in Piazza Meda, while in Largo Raffaele Mattioli there are two parking spaces reserved for disabled parking permit holders.

Information for visitors
Free entrance for people with disability; the tour is available for no more than 1 wheelchair user at a time. Guided tours by appointment.

 

Entrance
The main entrance has one step (5 cm) and a hinged door (87 cm wide). The gate to the courtyard is opened for visitors on a wheelchair (width: 250 cm; bell height: 110 cm) and from here it is possible to visit Manzoni and Tommaso Grossi's studios, that are both accessible.

 

Reception
In the hall there are:

  • The Infopoint (counter height: 88 cm),
  • The Ticket office (counter height: 88 cm),
  • The Bookshop (counter height 100 cm).

The museum staff is at your disposal for information and tourist reception services.

 

Lift
The lift is in front of the ticket office and has the following features:

  • Door width: 89 cm, cabin 110x141 cm,
  • Elevator push buttons panel with embossed Braille printing at a maximum height of 130 cm,
  • visual and acoustic signal for arrival on the floor,
  • emergency bell (h 133 cm).

 

Exhibition itinerary
The museum is sited in an historic building, where Alessandro Manzoni lived since 1814 until his death in 1873. It is divided into 10 sections retracing, through works of art and furniture in the rooms, the different moments in the life of the writer.

The exhibition itinerary develops on the first floor. You reach the first floor by 4 flights of stairs (32 steps each, handrail on the right side) or by lift. All the museum rooms are wide, but there are no seats; captions are in Italian and in English, placed at different heights.
On the first floor you can visit the “Galleria degli ex voto dipinti di fede”, an exhibition of votive tablets and paintings from XV to XIX centuries.

The entrance to the exhibition has a hinged door (width: 100 cm), all rooms are wide and accessible.
On the ground floor, after the ticket office, a step (5 cm high) and a passageway (100 cm wide) lead to the area used for temporary exhibitions where you can find a video room with 40 seats (entrance with a double leaf door, 50 cm wide each).

 

Orientation Signage
The building has directional arrows written in large letters (at least 7 cm) and well contrasted.

 

Restrooms
The accessible restroom for people with disability is on the ground floor in front of the video room and has the following features:

  • sliding door (width: 80 cm),
  • suspended washbasin (space in front: 87 cm),
  • floor-standing toilet (clear floor area: in front 110 cm, on the right side 23 cm, on the left side 124 cm, grab bar on the left side, shower bidet on the right side of the toilet),
  • high contrast symbols indicating toilet facilities, positioned at eye level, using medium to large size letters.
