AWS New Europe Region opens in Milano

Amazon chose Milano to expand its services offering

The newly opened Amazon Web Services (AWS) region has three availability zones and it follows the opening of the Amazon Edge location, in 2012 and the first AWS office in Milano, in 2014.

The new hub will expand the advanced cloud-based technology solutions for operators in the territory. It will reduce latency and ensure local control for third party data.

Three availability zones

Milano's Region comprises three availability zones. Each Availability zone has one or more data centers and they are located in different areas of the city to ensure business continuity and reduce the risk of a single event.

The region will be able to offer low latency for companies not only in Italy but for whomever wants to offer its digital services to Italian customers. Amazon choice confirms a growing trend of choosing Milano as a hub to serve a wider southern Europe region, thanks to its favorable location and its thriving business environment.

The region will also facilitate those companies which encounter stringent data residency requirements to comply with local regulations. Two examplary sectors which might benefit from these new services are Fintech and Life Sciences.

A growing team

The opening of the new region confirms Amazon commitment and investment in Milano and in the country. The new offices required the hiring of an ever-growing team of account managers, solution architects, business developers, and consultants, with several positions which are currently open on AWS website and linkedin. Amazon's employees working in the city are now are over 1000.

Developed in Milano

The presence of high quality infrastructures, as the one that AWS offers, combined with the high quality of the local talent provided by Milanese Universities are the founding base for some of the most innovative services that have been developed in Milano. For example, Satispay, which is a local startup which has grown into one of the main european players in the smart payments sector, runs its services on AWS, and benefit from AWS’s compliance accreditations and certifications, many of which are required to operate in the financial services industry.
