Milano: Europe’s new fintech frontier

Milano&Partners FDI unit guest at Il Salone dei Pagamenti

Milano&Partners FDI team, together with Invest Lisboa and GoVilnius, was the guest of this year’s edition of Il Salone dei Pagamenti, Italy’s payment sector major event promoted by ABI (Italian Banking Association) and taking place virtually on November 3rd-5th.

Moderated by Fintech District, the representatives from Milano, Lisboa and Vilnius discussed how their cities are emerging as new European fintech hubs thanks to their different approaches to innovation and regulation and how they’re changing the European fintech landscape, attracting talents and innovation

In recent years the geography of the European financial industry has grown more diverse thanks to the push of new fintech hubs. Outside the spotlight of traditional destinations, cities like Milano, Lisboa and Vilnius are moving beyond the frontiers of fintech thanks to their favourable business environments and innovative ecosystems which are rich in talent and opportunities for investors who wish to seize the best first.

Fintech in Italy is not only the sector attracting more investments, but also the one in which startup valuations are growing fastest. Being home to over 45% of Italian fintech companies, Milano is leading the way, boasting key national and international players like Nexi, Satispay and Klarna, and attracting 70% of Italy’s venture capital

Thanks to its strategic position right at the heart of Europe, its thriving startup ecosystem, its world class talent pool and the high quality of life, Milano is definitely the next fintech place to be.
