Milano was among the winners of the Earthshot Prize on Sunday, an environmental award created by Britain's Prince William, Reuters reports.
The prize was established to find policy solutions to the planet’s biggest environmental challenges, with winners in each of the five categories receiving 1 million pounds (€1,19 million). The City of Milano won the "Build a Waste-Free World" award for its food waste hubs, which recover food to give to people most in need.
Thus Neighborhood Hubs (Hub di Quartiere) against food waste was among the winning projects of the first edition of the Earthshot Prize. The project was developed thanks to the Milano Food Policy initiative developed by the Municipality with Cariplo Foundation. The award was given by actress Emma Thompson to Milano’s Deputy Mayor, Anna Scavuzzo, as herself announced on Facebook, thanking all the volunteers and city stakeholders that made the project possible.
