From September 7th to September 13th 2020, on the occasion of Miart, the international trade fair of modern and contemporary art this year exclusively digital, Milano will become a hub for visual culture and modern and contemporary art, thanks to the rich program of events of the Milano Art Week.

Today Milano is acknowledged by the European Creative Cities Monitor as one of the first five european cities as regards vitality, richness and accessibility of its cultural offer. Museums, art centers, private foundations and project spaces offer their public the fruit of a combined commitment through solo and collective exhibitions, performances, talks in live streaming and online events, respectful of all anti-Covid measures.

In-person events: Highlights of the fourth edition of the Milano Art Week

Many “live” initiatives are included in the program of the Milano ArtWeek 2020, from the performances at PAC | Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea as part of the “Performing PAC. Made of Sound” program, to the many new exhibitions hosted in different locations.

The Museo del Novecento (20th Century Art Museum), besides focusing on the abstract painter Valentino Vago, will put on display the work that won the Premio Acacia and the opening of the solo exhibition dedicated to Franco Guerzoni with the title “Accudire il frammento” (“Nourish The Fragment”); whereas “Out of the blue”, a voyage through calligraphy by six Chinese contemporary artists through the medium of Alcantara, opens on September 9th at the Palazzo Reale.

At the Studio Museo Francesco Messina the artists Maria Cristina Carlini (until Sept. 8th) and Roberta Colombo (from Sept. 10th) will alternate themselves, while at the Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano a series of graphic works previously unreleased by Ugo La Pietra and the exhibition “Acqua Fuoco Plastica Metalli” by Giovanna Giachett are scheduled until Sept. 13th.

 

The Museo della Scienza e della Tecnologia (Science and Technology Museum) will host the photo exhibition “Milano Città Aperta” (from Sept. 8th) and “La voce dei metalli”, solo exhibition by Roberto Ciaccio, while the Casa degli Artisti will host “Casa delle Artiste” by the artists of the Gina X Collective, specifically conceived for the Milano Art Week 2020.

Not to be missed

  • In-person: Saturday Sept. 12th free admission to the Museo del Novecento for the whole day (access for a limited number of people at a time, online reservation higly recommended at www.museicivicimilano.vivaticket.it). On Wednesday Sept. 9th Milano art galleries adhering to the Milano Art Community will be open from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. offering a series of special events and performances.
  • Online: on the occasion of the Milano ArtWeek it will be possible to enjoy a charitable online photo exhibition on Venice during lockdown as pictured by Michele Alassio on the webpage www.ourdarkesthour.it. Many other special events, almost all online, have been conceived and organized by Futurdome, Dimora Artica, Fondazione Pini, Assab One and Mars Milano.
  • By night: Art Night will be back on the night of Saturday Sept. 12th, with the extraordinary opening of some no-profit spaces which will offer free admission hosting special events dedicated to contemporary art.

ArtLine Milano

ArtLine Milano The public art project ArtLine Milano, the Parco delle Sculture in the Citylife area – already marked by the design of great architects such as Isozaki, Adid, Libeskind and Fuksas – will include four more site specific works by Mario Airò, Alfredo Jaar, Maurizio Nannucci, Wilfredo Prieto.

Institutions involved

The Comune di Milano takes part in ArtWeek 2020 with its cultural institutions – PAC|Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, Museo del Novecento, Palazzo Reale, Studio Museo Francesco Messina, Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano, Acquario Civico – and the above mentioned public art project Artline Milano.

 

Fondazione Prada, Pirelli Hangar Bicocca, La Triennale, Acquario Civico, Gallerie d’Italia, Fondazione Stelline, Museo Diocesano, Casa Testori will also be protagonists of the Milano ArtWeek 2020, with free admission days to their collections and temporary exhibitions of modern and contemporary art.
