Are you curious to know how many international students come to Milano to study every year? How many students graduate from our institutes every year? Where do they come from and what have they come to study in our city?

Here the answers to these questions.

All the data refer to the a.y. 2018/2019: the situation has changed, given the global crisis, but it's interesting to observe this data in order to compare them in the future.

Enrolment

Total enrolment in Milano’s Universities and (art and music) Academies is 214.537 students, and international students head count is 20.638, which means they represent nearly 10% of total students.

Graduates*

The total of graduate students in Milano universities for the academic year 2018/2019 was 46.945, with international students representing the 7,5% with 3.478 graduates.

* Only universities - no data available about Academies

Where our int’l students come from

The provenance has been observed by continent. It is interesting to see that in Milano you really can find people coming to learn and grow from all over the world.

Most of international students are coming from Asia, with a representation of 41,8%, immediately followed by Europeans, that are the 40,4%.

Americas, Africa and Oceania are behind by a great measure, with the Americas at a 11,5%, Africa at 5,9% (but still, forming strong communities and having great relative numbers in 3 Universities) and Oceania (for what we suppose very reasonable geographic causes) at 0,8%.

Going more in detail with nationalities, we observe from the data that Chinese students are on top of the list, being the most of international students in 3 universities, followed by Albanian, Romanian, Cameroonian, French, Iranian, Indian and Russian.
