For all those who are both visiting or staying in Milan this summer and looking for entertainment, there is a single major hub to head for on evenings from June to August: Castello Sforzesco will host over 80 live events in its stunning Cortile delle Armi, within the Estate Sforzesca programme.

From Friday, 6th August 2021, to get in the events of Estate Sforzesca it will be necessary to show the Green Pass at the entrance (or negative antigenic swab, performed in the previous 48 hours) and an identity document, as required by the new legislation.

In the line-up, well known names in music will alternate with dance and theatre performances. Here are some highlights.

Milan’s great orchestras are tasked with the honor of rediscovering the classics: Civica Orchestra di Fiati, together with performer Davide Lorenzo Palla, open the month of August with an unusual version of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, that will bring  theatre and music together (August 1). They will be followed by Antonio Vivaldi Orchestra, with a programme that ranges from Bach to Ennio Morricone’s soundtracks, and include Vivaldi and Elgar (August 2). Young, multi-awarded Maestro Beatrice Venezi will then be on the podium with Orchestra Milano Classica for Beethoven's Fifth and Mendelssohn's Fourth Italiana Symphony (La Grande Bellezza, August 8). Timeless filmscores by Ennio Morricone will be back for another tribute, this time from Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano LaVerdi (August 22).  LaVerdi Orchestra will close the month with an evening dedicated to Astor Piazzolla and his Tango Nuevo, one hundred years after the birth of the Argentine composer (August 29).

Classical dance lovers can count on two evenings with the Balletto di Milano, a local ballet of international renown: the first will feature La Vie en Rose ... Bolero, two acts dedicated respectively to French chansonniers (Brel, Montand, Piaf, Aznavour) and to Ravel's Bolero (August 3). The second will feature the Grand Gala Ballet with excerpts from the most celebrated dance classics, such as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Carmen (August 4).

Afro-caribbean tastes will have their gala as well: on August 7 the MezclandoTamtando cultural association brings its Africa / Cuba show to Castello Sforzesco, including 15 percussionists and a sextet of Cuban musicians for an evening of rumba and son, with tradition and rhythm.
