IN THE SHADOW OF THE MORO. THE SALA DELLE ASSE

Castello Sforzesco, Museo d’Arte Antica, Sala delle Asse

Leonardo’s Sala delle Asse is once again open to visitors after the removal of scaffoldings that were used for the restoration works. A catwalk offers a close view of the so-called Monochrome and of the preparatory drawings that have surfaced on the walls. A multimedia installation guides visitors through the interpretation of the grandiose work conceived to celebrate Ludovico il Moro.

THE SALA DELLE ASSE. LEONARDO BETWEEN NATURE, ART AND SCIENCE

A selection of nature drawings by Leonardo da Vinci and by other great maestros of the Renaissance reveal the close iconographic and stylistic relations with Sala delle Asse and, particularly, with the recent findings on the wall under the plaster layer.

LEONARDO IN MILANO

Castello Sforzesco, Museo d’Arte Antica, Sala delle Armi

A virtual tour guides the visitor along places associated with Leonardo in Milan, underscoring, after five centuries, the social composition and the aspect of urban spaces, palaces, gardens and sacred buildings. A georeferenced visual map allows to identify what has survived of those places.

EXHIBITION AT MUSEO DELLA SCIENZA E TECNOLOGIA LEONARDO DA VINCI

On stage at the Museum a fascinating exhibition in which newly displayed Leonardesque historical models parade next to frescoes by 16th century Lombard painters from the Pinacoteca di Brera. Unusual combinations of art and science celebrate the 500 years from the death of Leonardo da Vinci.

Theo Jansen - Dream Beasts

Exhibition at Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia

For the first time, Italy can enjoy the works of Dutch artist Theo Jansen, best known around the world for his kinetic sculptures called Strandbeest, hybrids with a zoomorphological aspect that move by using the thrust of the wind. Called by international critics a modern Leonardo, Theo Jansen relates art and science in a dialogue inaugurated at the Museum by a 1953 exhibition dedicated indeed to the genius of Leonardo.

THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF NATURE

Exhibition at Palazzo Reale

Leonardo modified our perception and representation of nature. And nature itself is the subject of the beautiful complex of twenty paintings making up the so-called Sala del Grechetto, to which the exhibition is dedicated. A unique instance in the tradition of Italian painting, both for dimension and for the amount of portrayed animal species.

Interactive laboratory at Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci

At the Museo della Scienza e della Tecnologia (Science and Technology Museum) an interactive laboratory is dedicated to Leonardo. In the new i.lab visitors can discover Leonardo as an artist who loved experimenting as well as an engineer dealing with the construction sites of the Renaissance. Exploring first hand how Leonardo worked might stimulate everyone to find new ways of acting and thinking.

MILANO AND ITS CULTURAL AND MUSICAL IMPORTANCE BETWEEN THE 15TH AND THE END OF THE 17TH CENTURY

From the second half of the 15th Century, Milano becomes an artistic and cultural centre among the most renowned in Europe, thank also to Leonardo da Vinci’s presence (1452-1519) and that of Franchino Gaffurio (1451-1522), the latter guiding the Cappella Musicale del Duomo di Milano.

A.M.A.M.I. wishes to celebrate these two great artistic personalities exploring some of the formal and stylistic themes of the musical language of the first Renaissance period.

Five concerts (March 21st and 28th, May 16th, 23rd and 30th) with the participation of musical ensembles such as the Collegium Nova Ars Cantandi, the Ensemble La Réverdie, the Capella de Ministrers, the Ensemble Fonte Musica, the Ensemble Micrologus.

THE LAST SUPPER IN PICTURES. CINEMA AND IMAGES TELLING LEONARDO’S LAST SUPPER

MIC – Museo Interattivo del Cinema, Gallerie d’Italia and chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie

A cinema festival, an exhibition and a series of meetings with free admission to let the Last Supper “out” of its conservation place, allow people to know it better and check its influence along the years.
The festival hosted in several venues, consists of about ten films (documentaries on the restoration, famous films citing the iconography of the masterpiece and precious archive films of which one copy only exists). The exhibition, starting in May 2019, is hosted in the spaces of the Museo del Cenacolo Vinciano and tells the story of how the museum evolved and the thrilling story the frescoed wall, from the aerial bombing of 1943 to the big restoration campaigns of the 20th Century. To finish off, a series of four encounters and a day of study on the Last Supper and its restoration on the background of 20th-Century Milan.

THE LAST SUPPER AFTER LEONARDO

Leonardo keeps on influencing contemporary art, as proven by the artists who have been invited to revisit the most sacred and iconic painting of our western culture in a contemporary key. Key figures on the contemporary art scene, who come from different cultural traditions, namely Anish Kapoor, Robert Longo, Masbedo, Nicola Samorì, Wang Guangyi, Yue Minjun, re-read the theme of the Last Supper in an original dialogue between East and West.

The Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani Institute celebrates Leonardo with an exhibition project that speaks of his genius in the language of contemporaneity. The Studio Azzurro artists ensemble creates an immersive and interactive itinerary peopled by Leonardo’s machines turned into narrative devices thanks to state-of-the-art technologies.

LA MISURA DEL PARADISO. Leonardo alla corte del Moro

Leonardo five hundred years later. Thousands of pages have been written about him as an artist, an engineer and a scientist. There is yet a lesser known part of his artistic activity. The documentary wishes to tell the story of Leonardo as an entertainer: a musician, a scenographer, a costume designer for parties, tournaments and banquets at the Milanese court.

IPPODROMO DI SAN SIRO SNAI AND VARIOUS LOCATIONS

Leonardo's Horse, a bronze statue created by Nina Akamu on drawings by Leonardo da Vinci and kept at the Snai San Siro Racetrack, is the protagonist of an important promotion project: the Leonardo Horse Project.

The inauguration, on April 10th, unveils the 13 scale reproductions of the Horse, interpreted by a pool of internationally renowned artists and designers according to their own style. The Design Horses, exhibited at the Racecourse during the Design Week, will then peacefully invade the City of Milano until  the end of October, placed in different locations linked to the history of the Genius Engineer. An increased reality App accompanies the public to discover the statue and the works, in an experiential and immersive journey, rich in content.

An anthological exhibition, in collaboration with the Museo della Battaglia e di Anghiari, dedicated to the studies that Leonardo carried out on the equestrian figure will also be happening at the Racecourse.

THE FICTION OF POWER: DURER’S TRIUMPH’S ARCH FOR MAXIMILIAN OF ABSBURG

An exhibition centred on the gigantic engraving work of the Triumphal Arch of Maximilian I, by Albrecht Dürer, exploring for the first time the relationship with figurative culture in Milan in Leonardo’s days. The event foresees a focus on the bond between the Emperor’s court and that of Ludovico il Moro.

LEONARDO’S OTHER HORSE: THE EQUESTRIAN MONUMENT FOR GIAN GIACOMO TRIVULZIO (1507-1517)

Among Leonardo’s unfinished works, stands the mausoleum with the equestrian monument of Gian Giacomo Trivulzio, a military captain in Milan since 1467 and in France since 1495. Elaborated since 1507 and then forcibly abandoned in 1512, this was an “obsession” that haunted Leonardo up to 1517.

It’s been 500 years since Leonardo’s death and 100 years since the Bauhaus was founded. The marionette, a very simple machine, takes us on a journey between contraptions and forms. All around, the backstage structures; above, the uncovered bridge commanding the marionettes. To round up everything, a series of mechanical elements in wood and canvas, inspired by Leonardo’s studies, which through their motion become “sparks” moving about the historical world of marionettes.

Durante il maggio vinciano, apre le porte al pubblico lo storico Palazzo Aeronautica con una mostra dedicata al tema del volo, dai progetti vinciani alle moderne tecnologie. L’esperienza si arricchisce di un percorso multimediale con le proiezioni dei modelli di Leonardo, fino ai moderni simulatori di volo e alle tecnologie che ad oggi l’Aeronautica Militare utilizza nella continua evoluzione verso lo Spazio. Durante la mostra avverrà il lancio del concorso “Con i voli della mente Leonardo torna a scuola”, che coinvolgerà gli studenti di Milano nell’arco dell’anno scolastico 2019/2020.

A collective exhibition comparing works of contemporary artists with the world of Leonardo, originating a collective new look on his genius that was so inspirational for artists with such different poetic languages. Among the suggestions: nature (flora, fauna, fossils, minerals), the Last Supper, the portraits and the faces, the human body and architecture.

LEONARDO AND THE LANDSCAPE SURROUNDING MONA LISA

The analysis of the territory brought about by Luca Tomio with Professor Carmelo Petronio, a geologist of the Università La Sapienza, Rome, has recognized in the “Mona Lisa” the typical landscape of the Lombard Prealpi with its mountains, rivers  and lakes. On the right side the Adda Valley from the Forra di Paderno (a canyon formed by the river) till its junction to the side of the Lake towards Lecco and on the left the typical mountain formations of the area around Lecco, with the Resegone in the foreground.

A COME LEONARDO. ARTE-ARCHITETTURA E ACQUA IN VILLA ARCONATI-FAR

Exhibition at Villa Arconati-FAR, via Fametta 1 - Bollate (MI)

A tale in pictures which develops itself along the unexplored spaces of Villa Arconati-FAR, along a route where the visitor is central, in a dialogue with Leonardo and within the uniqueness of the Villa. The setting consists of three dark rooms, illuminated only by black light, thanks to a new printing technology with fluorescent toners.

Multidisciplinary Festival Milano San Rocco Purification System – Località Ronchetto delle Rane and Milano Nosedo Purification System – Via S. Dionigi 90

Exhibitions, performances, meetings and laboratories to explore the interdisciplinary aspect of Leonardo da Vinci. It is the 5th Edition of Festival Internazionale dei Depuratori (International Water Purification Systems Festival), format between art and science taking place in a very special context.

Franco Lucillini's photos are a great chance to closely admire – in very high resolution – a great number of Leonardo's works. The choice covers Leonardo's entire lifespan and it is very useful to integrate and complete a visit to the Last Supper, which is located very close by.

Vaprio e la Valle dell’Adda: lo sguardo di Leonardo

Exhibition at Custode delle Acque, via Alzaia Sud 3, Vaprio d'Adda

An exhibition itinerary exploring the bond between Leonardo and the Adda river territory through the sketches and studies he realised there. Those precious sheets came back home after the Master's death thanks to Francesco Melzi, the beloved pupil to whom Leonardo left «tutti et ciaschaduno li libri» (each and everyone of the books). Of the numerous sketches that reached the present day  spread in the various Codexes, the most important for the area of Vaprio d’Adda, its surroundings and Leonardo's studies on water have been selected.

Three permanently visible public art/street art interventions. Created by Associazione Atelier Spazio Xpò as good renovation practices, within an "urban" itinerary to important spots of the city loved by the Milanese, with Leonardo as the main character.

Guided visits to the Sforza Castle Museums and its secret spaces

Guided visits to the Sforza Castle Museums and its secret spaces, and to its new multimedia installations. Acted visits, escape rooms, game tours and virtual reality, making the cultural memory of the Castle in Leonardo's days into a new cultural experience.

Mural at Ponte delle Milizie Alzaia Naviglio Grande

The artist Elisabetta Mastro wanted to pay her personal tribute to the great Renaissance inventor with one of her murals, in which his masterpiece (The Last Supper) is revisited in a new, personal interpretative key, with an essential trait, emphasis on colour and subtle play, segmented by infinite form-suggested nuances.

MILAN IN - LEONARDO, A GENIUS IN MILAN

Leonardo in Milan was able to fully express his endless genius and, by so doing, he transformed the city. The performance tells about his bond with the man who more than anyone else contributed to his success: Ludovico il Moro. Directed by Gian Luca Margheriti, writer and expert in Milanese history: his tales alternate with musical performances and readings to dive deep in the subject.

An installation of texts and luminous thoughts by Leonardo Da Vinci, placed along via Fratelli Ruffini, the street leading to the site where the Last Supper is preserved. At the end of the event, the works will be auctioned to benefit the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.

Made to promote the schedule for Leonardo 500 in schools

The Department of Education of the Municipality, together with the Scuola Civica di Cinema Luchino Visconti, released a video starring actor Germano Lanzoni (Milanese Imbruttito) and Luca Caricato (an expert of Leonardo’s life and work), to promote in schools the many opportunities to enjoy events related to Leonardo as well as his works.

Nel cinquecentesimo anno dalla morte di Leonardo anche la cucina si impegna a festeggiare il genio italiano. Nel cortile di Palazzo Bovara il cibo e la cultura si mescolano per dare luogo a un evento unico. Chef stellati presenteranno i propri “piatti di Leonardo”, rivisitazioni in chiave moderna di ricette rinascimentali per rievocare i sapori dell’epoca leonardesca, regalandoli a quanti vorranno cimentarsi nell’arte culinaria. Uno evento di grande livello “condito” da approfondimenti culturali per immergersi a pieno nell’atmosfera di un tempo. A seguire presentazione del libro “L’ombra di Caterina” edito da Solferino a cura della scrittrice Marina Migliavacca e dedicato alla vita di Leonardo da Vinci.
