Leonardo’s ‘Last Supper’ for Francis I: a masterpiece of silk and silver. Exhibition at Palazzo Reale

One of the first copies of Leonardo’s ‘Last Supper’ is exhibited for the first time after its restoration. The work of art, which is the property of the Musei Vaticani, was produced on tapestry between 1505 and 1510, commissioned by Luisa of Savoy and Francis Duke of Angoulême, who later became King Francis I of France. Don't miss the tableau vivant, presented for the first time in Italy.

8 October 2019 – 17 November 2019

The temporary exhibition “Leonardo Da Vinci Parade” - curated and developed by the Museum – comprises a large selection of fascinating models built in the 1950s through the interpretation of Leonardesque drawings and frescoes by sixteenth century Lombard artists, granted for storage in 1952 by the Pinacoteca di Brera, directed at the time by Fernanda Wittgens. The Museum celebrates its origins by evocatively exhibiting the two collections with which it opened to the public on February 15th, 1953. Next to the machines there are recently restored plaster and terracotta models of military and civil architectures - many of which have not been on display for years. On two great walls, the torn frescos from Brera evoke the racks from the museum storage, by creating a suggestive collection of paintings where they are shown according to their place of origin, such as churches or no longer existing buildings in Milan. Among the painters, Bernardino Luini and his school play a fundamental role, as one of the most successful authors in early 1500s Lombardy. The exhibition is an unusual combination of art and science in an unprecedented show which touches Da Vinci’s numerous fields of interest and study through the worldwide renown historic collection of the Museum.

“Leonardo Da Vinci Parade” is the first initiative – both at national and international level – created in the frame of the celebrations for the 500 years from Leonardo da Vinci’s death (1519-2019) in the program of events “Milan and the inheritance of Leonardo 1519-2019”, presented by the Comune di Milano. The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Pinacoteca di Brera and with the support of Fondazione Cariplo

LA MISURA DEL PARADISO. Leonardo alla corte del Moro

Docufilm by Fondazione Milano - Civica Scuola di Cinema L. Visconti

Leonardo five hundred years later. Thousands of pages have been written about him as an artist, an engineer and a scientist. There is yet a lesser known part of his artistic activity. The documentary wishes to tell the story of Leonardo as an entertainer: a musician, a scenographer, a costume designer for parties, tournaments and banquets at the Milanese court.

Leonardo horse project

Leonardo's Horse, a bronze statue created by Nina Akamu on drawings by Leonardo da Vinci and kept at the Snai San Siro Racetrack, is the protagonist of an important promotion project: the Leonardo Horse Project.

The inauguration, on April 10th, unveils the 13 scale reproductions of the Horse, interpreted by a pool of internationally renowned artists and designers according to their own style. The Design Horses, exhibited at the Racecourse during the Design Week, will then peacefully invade the City of Milano until  the end of October, placed in different locations linked to the history of the Genius Engineer. An increased reality App accompanies the public to discover the statue and the works, in an experiential and immersive journey, rich in content.

An anthological exhibition, in collaboration with the Museo della Battaglia e di Anghiari, dedicated to the studies that Leonardo carried out on the equestrian figure will also be happening at the Racecourse.

Salvator Mundi. History, attribution, controversy: when marketing meets art

Conference at Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense – Sala Maria Teresa, via Brera 28

The recent controversy surrounding the purchase of Salvator Mundi, a painting attributed to Leonardo, upon payment of a huge amount of money,  should not affect considerations on the history, the quality and the interpretation of this masterpiece, of which preparatory sketches by Leonardo itself exist and are witnessed in documents dating back to 1525. Some of them even testify it belonged to the King of England. The conference by Pietro C. Marani concentrates on the iconography of the Saviour in Byzantine, Flemish and Italian painting, stressing the original contribution of the prototype prepared by Leonardo, the high quality of the version now resurfaced and its fortune among the master's disciples.

"Golosaria Milano 2019" dedicates a talk show to the relationship connecting Leonardo, food and nature, which in many ways reflects some of today's most diffuse trends, especially with regards to "light" food,“vegetarian diets” and the presentation of dishes, in which he appears a forerunner of modern food design. We cannot forget Leonardo's deep knowledge in the fields of agronomy and oenology - which he developed right while working at his vineyard in Milan. The event is completed by a show cooking dedicated to some recipes and table tips credited to Leonardo, which are of great interest to this day.
