A masterpiece for Christmas

Palazzo Marino
Piazza della Scala 2

For this festive season, an art masterpiece - Perugino’s The Baptism of Christ - on loan from the National Gallery of Umbria, will transform Palazzo Marino into a temple of beauty.

From December 5th, 2023 to January 14th, 2024, the Sala Alessi will vaunt a festive atmosphere thanks to an eco-sustainable and 100% recyclable scenographic installation: visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the sacredness of water - symbol of life, rebirth and purification - through this unique visual experience.

The original structure of the polyptych, in which the Baptism was the central theme, is brought to life as a digital experience, thus offering not only the viewing of Perugino's masterpiece but also the enchantment of an animated reconstruction of the entire artwork.

Following a well-established yearly tradition, admission to the exhibition is free, and guided tours by art historians enable visitors to completely immerse themselves in the world of Renaissance art and Perugino’s masterpiece in the year that commemorates the 500th anniversary of his death.

In the city’s eight additional municipalities, the civic libraries will host works from the Gallery of Modern Art and the Museo del Novecento in Milano from December 11th to January 5th, 2024.

Promoted by the Municipality of Milano, and sponsored by the Perugino 1523 - 2023 Committee, the exhibition project is curated by Palazzo Reale in collaboration with Gallerie d'Italia di Intesa Sanpaolo, the Milano Central Libraries and the municipalities.
