Milano, of course, is the fashion capital par excellence, and in September Milano Fashion Week will dominate it. But fashion events will capture the attention of the whole city and of the great national and international realities all month long. Here are all the dates you shouldn't miss.


17 - 23 September

The most anticipated event of fashion. Milano Fashion Week is by far one of the most important events on the Milano scene. Guests and celebrities from all over the world, companies that have made the history of fashion, new emerging brands and highly talented designers, make Milano Moda Donna the top of style and fashion research, with the presentation of the new spring/summer 2020 collections ready to amaze.


22 September. Teatro alla Scala

On September 22nd the third edition of the Green Carpet Fashion Awards will take place in the special location of the Teatro alla Scala. The event is focused on environmental and sustainability issues that must now be the prerogative of all companies, including of course those of fashion. It is, in fact, fundamental that even the fashion sector continues to develop more and more an ethical conscience regarding the use of natural resources, so that the entire production chain orientates itself towards greener choices. During the event, the winner of the Green Carpet Talent Competition will be announced: five selected designers will compete with eco-sustainable fashion projects to win the Franca Sozzani GCC Emerging Designer Award. To evaluate them will be a jury of experts that will have the task of choosing the best project among those proposed.


12 September. Piazza Duomo and surrounding area

The Vogue For Milano night, scheduled for September 12th, is undoubtedly one of the most awaited events by the Milanese citizens. A great party with open shops, music and many initiatives to which this year is added The Vogue Italia Street Party with live performances by artists who will compete in poetry slam and freestyle battle. In a world like fashion, often perceived as reserved for professionals and not inclusive, Vogue For Milano has always been seen as an event aimed at the Milanese and open to all, on an evening in which the watchwords must be fashion, fun and emotions. And speaking of words, the theme of the event will be "Words matter", to emphasize the importance of words in the historical period we are going through, which should not be used as weapons but as tools to bring people closer.


19 - 22 September. Via Tortona 27, 31, 35, 54

WHITE, one of the events of Milano Fashion Week, has always set itself the goal of bringing out new talents who know how to combine quality and innovation, with proposals capable of giving new impetus to the fashion sector. The innovations presented at each edition are always at the top of the market offer and are winning because they meet the tastes of the buyers and the trends implemented by the best international brands.


From 20 September. Piazzetta Reale

Maison Louis Vuitton wishes to celebrate the link with the city of Milano, the first that thirty-five years ago welcomed the entrance of the French House in Italy. It does so with an exhibition open to the public entitled Time capsule exhibition Milan, which will be held in the Piazzetta Reale from 20 September to 20 October. The main purpose of the exhibition is to present the history of Louis Vuitton through an exhibition.


19 - 22 September. MUDEC Museo delle Culture

MICAM, the leading international footwear exhibition, celebrates its 50th anniversary in September with an immersive digital exhibition at MUDEC, It's Shoe Time! open to the public free of charge. The exhibition, realized with video mapping technology, wants to tell the evolution of costume and fashion through footwear, highlighting its design and style from the 70s to today, and also showing the way in which the shop windows have become adequate throughout history, reaching up to today's store of the future where technology, virtual customization and digitalization prevail.


21 September. Piazza XXV Aprile

Upside-Down Show is an event promoted by LABO.ART S.r.l. which will take place on September 21st in Piazza XXV Aprile, on Corso Como side. This is an innovative initiative that involves the catwalk show of passers-by with their clothes, while the public will be models and performers who will wear the clothes of the new collection LABO.ART SS 2020.


17 - 23 September. Via della Spiga

From 17 to 23 September in via della Spiga there will be a multimedia exhibition by Marie Claire entitled Express Yourself, which tells the taste for fashion through 24 large photos, characterized by an innovative and avant-garde spirit. The protagonists of the images are four international models that photograph themselves, choosing from a suitcase of clothes the style that best matches their personality and above all their way of being, cosmopolitan, evolved, innovative women. 


19 - 21 September

Afro Fashion Week Milano is an Haute-Couture and Street-Couture event created specifically to celebrate Afro fashion, presenting its fabrics, increasingly used by the great world-famous designers, and proposing the projects of emerging designers. The initiative starts on September 19th with a conference open to all, at the Catholic University of Milano. On September 20th and 21st, at the Fabbrica del Vapore, the fashion shows of various Italian, African and American designers will be held, who will show the city their creations (some events are on invitation).


19 September. Civic Aquarium

On September 19 at the Acquario Civico will be held an interesting meeting. A plunge into the world of jewelry, reflecting on the role they have had over the centuries. Admission is free, subject to registration.


22 September

A project born to present to the press and citizens the collections of young designers from all over the world, giving them maximum visibility during Fashion Week. The event promotes diversity as a true aesthetic value: CODED is, in fact, the acronym of Combining Our Diverse Ethnicities Differently. The goal is to seek new talent by focusing on multiculturalism and going beyond ethnic, social and geographical barriers.


Vogue Talents è un progetto di talent scouting lanciato nel 2009 da Vogue Italia, oggi brand attraverso il quale Condé Nast Italia supporta la nuova generazione di designer scovando talenti sul web, sui social network, nelle scuole di moda e nelle fashion week più innovative in giro per il mondo. Vogue Talents festeggia 10 anni, e celebra questo importante traguardo con varie iniziative tra cui una mostra speciale a Palazzo Cusani che avrà luogo il 20 e il 21 Settembre, durante la Fashion Week milanese.


21 September

The event, organized by the Associazione Vitaru which deals with giving legal and psychological assistance to women victims of violence, children and the elderly, is dedicated to fashion creators, emerging designers and above all to women, and pays particular attention to sustainability issues in the field of fashion, real progress in ecological terms, the use of recycled materials, environmental impact and climate change. There will be garments inspired by real works of art and at the end of this presentation, there will be a flashmob, with a street catwalk in the historic centre of Milano, in synergy with the World Clean-Up Day movement and in conjunction with the WorldCleanUpDay flashmob to safeguard the planet from the waste.


20 - 21 Setptember

On the occasion of Fashion Week, an event that sees the culture of Africa and its artistic expression as a protagonist, declined in music, dance, fashion and art, with the presentation of talented young African designers. Aphrodite Music For Fashion offers an articulated schedule open to all, with a permanent installation of traditional art, design, modern and contemporary art, and eco-sustainable fashion. The programme includes screenings, traditional African music performed live, dance workshops to discover traditional African gestures, traditional African hairstyling workshops, tastings and much more. The aim of the initiative is to promote an awareness campaign against violence, particularly on women.


16 September. Palazzo Marino

On September 16th, at the Sala Alessi of Palazzo Marino, the 19th edition of the Chi è Chi Awards will be held, organized and promoted by Crisalide Press S.r.l. The event sees the awarding of prestigious awards by a jury of journalists from the most important magazines in the sector, who define the winners on the basis of a different theme at each edition. This year's theme is the world of top models: models, directors, soundtracks, photographers, agencies, stylists and all the protagonists who represent Italian excellence on stage.


24 September. Palazzo di Giustizia

International conference on law in the fashion sector, which deals with the salient issues from the creations to the collections, deepening the rights and protections within the single market. Organized by the Ordine degli Avvocati di Milano and Commissione Rapporti Internazionali delegated by the Ordine degli Avvocati di Milano with the Corte d'Appello di Milano, the conference aims to address a wide range of legal issues affecting the specific sector, with particular emphasis attention to the issue of sustainability in fashion. The event is free, and takes place on September 24 at Palazzo di Giustizia.


September is also a month full of fairs exclusively for fashion sector operators, such as The One Milano, MICAM (which this year celebrates 50 years, see below), MIPEL, HOMI Fashion&Jewels and HOMI Outdoor - HOME&DEHORS. Each fair is a moment of fundamental meetings between companies, producers, brands, distributors, designers, representatives, and all the protagonists of the fashion market, to exchange ideas and stimuli with an increasingly innovative and future-oriented spirit.
