The Norma In Jazz

When opera meets jazz

On
Milano Conservatorio
Via Conservatorio, 12

When opera meets jazz, music turns into poetry. This is going to happen at Milano Conservatorio with The Norma in Jazz, a new jazz version of Vincenzo Bellini’s masterpiece - one of the most important music composers of the nineteenth century. The Norma is an opera which takes place in former France during Ancient Rome times. It was performed for the first time at La Scala Theatre the 26th December 1831. Tonight, the opera will be played by the National Jazz Orchestra of Conservatori, directed by Paolo Silvestri. The trumpet player is Paolo Fresu, from Sardinia. His music is influenced by art and different cultures. That is why the opera will experience Afro-American culture as well. This happens when opera meets jazz.
