This is a list of the main Italian public holidays:

January 1st: Capodanno - New Year's Day;
January 6th: Epifania - Epiphany;
Pasqua - Easter. This can fall from March 22nd to April 25th (depending on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox);
Pasquetta - Easter Monday: the first Monday after Easter;
April 25th: Festa della Liberazione - Liberation Day (marking the end of World War II in Italy and liberation from fascism);
May 1st: Festa dei lavoratori - Labour Day;
June 2nd: Festa della Repubblica - Republic Day (celebrating the birth of the Italian Republic - June 2nd, 1946);
August 15th: NovemberFerragosto - August Bank Holiday (Assumption of the Virgin Mary);
November 1st: Ognissanti - All Saints;
December 7th: Sant'Ambrogio. Public holiday for the patron saint of the city (also official opening of the Teatro alla Scala theatrical season);
December 8th: Immacolata Concezione - Immaculate Conception;
December 25th: Natale -Christmas;
December 26th: Santo Stefano - Boxing Day.

Public transport services are guaranteed every day of the year in all circumstances, excluding exceptional situations such as traffic disruptions, severe weather conditions, manifestations or other public order events. During the weekends of December 25th and May 1st a limited service is operational from approximately 07:00 to 19:30. For all other public holidays a Sunday service is guaranteed. For major trade fairs and sporting events special measures are implemented to protect the well-being of citizens and the public transport service is increased. As for shopping in Milan, all major stores open their doors almost every day of the week. Furthermore, thanks to liberalisation, many shops - even small ones - are open on weekends, including Sundays and many public holidays. Remembrance days in the city of Milan are as follows:

• April 18th - plane crash at the Pirelli Tower;
• From March 18th to March 22nd - anniversary of the Cinque Giornate di Milano (Five Days of Milan);
• October 8th - commemoration of the victims of the Linate plane crash;
• December 12th - commemoration of the victims of the Piazza Fontana bombing.

Every year numerous influxes of tourists arrive in Milan not only to visit the city’s extensive historical and artistic heritage but also to attend exhibitions and events of international renown; a list of the main events can be found below:

• The Milan Fashion Weeks (menswear and womenswear) held twice a year (in February and September womenswear, in January and June menswear);
• BIT - Borsa Internazionale del Turismo - The International Tourism Exchange (February);
• Salone Internazionale del Mobile - The International Furniture Fair and Fuorisalone (April);
• SMAU - The International Trade fair for Information & Communication Technology (October);
• EICMA - International Motorcycle Exhibition (November);
• Artigiano in fiera - International Artisan Crafts Show (between the end of November and early December).

High tourist influx is also registered during the seasonal sales periods, in winter from January to March and in summer from June to August, as well as for weekend sports events and concerts at the Meazza San Siro stadium.
