The Chinese New Year's in Milano
Welcome, year of the rat!
The Year of the Rat is here, and Milano is ready to celebrate at its best, with the Chinese community living in town, the tourists arriving to the city for vacation, and all the citizens that want to be part of this celebration.
The new year of the Lunar Chinese Calendar will start January 25th under the sign of the Rat, first sign of the Chinese zodiac, representing prosperity, money, good luck and material richness.
Milan will have two weeks of events. The areas involved are many: first of all Sarpi, Milano Chinatown, but also the Fashion District, Corso Como and many exhibition venues, point of references for the artistic scene in Milano.
Also in San Siro, the football stadium, there will be a special game played with special uniforms with names written in Chinese ideograms.
The city is full of enthusiasm, and these are the best events and venues to welcome the Year of the Rat.
For the second year Montenapoleone District celebrates the Chinese New Year’s Eve with a schedule of activities to make more engaging the experience of an open air mall unique in the world as the Quadrilatero della Moda.
Here is the Montenapoleone Chinese New Year, with the photographic exhibition organized in collaboration between the Italy-China Fashion and Creativity Committee and with the support of the People’s Government of Jing’An District entitled “Living in Shanghai” by Aldo Fallai. Twenty unpublished photo-shots of Shanghai, illustrating its customs, that until 9 February will allow passers-by to immerse themselves in the culture and lifestyle of that amazing city. The famous artist-photographer, through the curious gaze of a tourist, has tried to identify similarities and differences with Italian culture.
Then a series of promotional initiatives, dedicated to strengthening the relationship with what is nowadays the pre-eminent nationality among buyers of the district.
Throughout the period, boutiques will set up themed showcases will present artistic projects that recall the oriental culture, will realize personalized products for the Chinese customers and apply customized sales ceremonies that include the tribute of the famous red envelopes, which according to Chinese tradition is an auspicious color. In particular, in addition to the tasting of Chinese tea, will be proposed capsule collection inspired by Rat.
Thus the windows of Rinascente on Piazza Duomo take the form of an imaginary oriental and suspended world created by the illustrator M.Y. Chen Zuer.
The exhibition, curated by Jorge Welsh and Luísa Vinhais, explores the historical context, purpose and impact of Chinese export porcelain. Fondazione Prada will host this exhibition from January 30 to September 28, 2020, with the aim of making the extraordinary Chinese manufacturing production well-known all over the world.
During the week of events dedicated to the Chinese New Year, a more than two meters high mouse, an installation designed and created by Cathay Pacific (well-known Hong Kong airline), will guard Corso Como. The rat, symbol of prosperity and wealth, matches the mood of the dynamic and futuristic Porta Nuova area.
The Michelin Guide lists four restaurants in the city as the best exponents of Chinese cuisine: Bon Wei (via Ludovico Castelvetro 16/18), Ba Asian Mood (via Raffaello Sanzio, 22), Le Nove Scodelle Milano (viale Monza 4) and Gong (corso Concordia, 8). Among the most creative and tasty dishes of oriental culinary experimentation, you can taste many unique and imaginative meals, faithful to the original Chinese tradition.
In particular, the Bon Wei restaurant, on the occasion of the Chinese New Year, offers a 10-course tasting (some of them: yellow grouper and golden sand soup with salted duck egg yolk) created by chef Zhang Guoqing, combined with a selection of champagne and wines from Cuzziol GrandiVini.
Until April 5, the Fabbrica del Vapore hosts the exhibition "The Terracotta Army and the First Emperor of China". The exhibition is a journey through the history of China, a journey through the life of the First Emperor Qin Shi Huangd and the Terracotta Army. On display three hundred reproductions - of which 170 are warriors - of the most representative objects in Chinese history, from its earliest dawn to the present day - a landmark of world art.
