In the beautiful setting of the San Fedele Church, the Italian-Swedish Chamber of Commerce Assosvezia offers the city of Milano and its inhabitants the opportunity to listen and watch free concert by the Nordiska Musikgymnasiet choir. The Stockholm Conservatory will sing some of the most characteristic songs dedicated to the beloved Saint Lucia, typical of Christmas period. Thus the tradition of the Syracusan martyr connects both nations, the Italian and the Swedish, in a single moment which, although born by different stories, is sincerely celebrated.
In Italy the Saint is a Santa Claus’ colleague: she brings presents to the children who write her a wish letter. In Sweden, instead, it is celebrated with lit candles. In the northern land this day is called Luciadagen and it has its origins in the distant eighteenth century, when some aristocratic families invited the girls to serve breakfast in bed to their parents. Since 1927, folklore was enriched with the coronation of the most beautiful Lucia, chosen between girls who play the role of the Saint. With the feast of the light, this Christmas will be magic.
