From September 25th 2019 to January 19th 2020, Palazzo Reale will host a major exhibition on Giorgio de Chirico, which reconstructs the artist's unique career through about one hundred masterpieces, about fifty years after his solo exhibition in 1970. The works come from some of the most important national and international museums including the Tate Modern in London, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Centre Pompidou and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville in Paris, the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art (GNAM) in Rome, the Museo del Novecento and the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milano.

Divided into eight rooms, the exhibition is organized in themes, in a chain of visual reactions, back-and-forth journeys that, as de Chirico wrote in 1918, chase "the demon in everything [...] the eye in everything [because] we are explorers ready for other departures". Objects placed in a timeless space, perspectives in collision between light and shadow, the suspended and enigmatic line of things reveal the daily Metaphysical sense released by each of De Chirico's works. A journey into the mythological and magnificent pictorial genius that transformed the art of the twentieth century.

The exhibition, curated by Luca Massimo Barbero, promoted and produced by the City of Milan-Cultura, Palazzo Reale, Marsilio and Electa, in collaboration with the Giorgio and Isa de Chirico Foundation, is a narrative made up of unpublished comparisons and surprising combinations, revealing the ghostly world of one of the most complex artists of the twentieth century, exploring the vibrancy and the creativity of his art that greatly influenced the visual culture of those years.
