A masterpiece by Leonardo that returns to the city in which it was painted: the Madonna Litta, after thirty years, returns from the Hermitage from 7 November 2019 to 10 February 2020, hosted at the Poldi Pezzoli Museum.

The Madonna Litta shows remarkable stylistic affinities with the second version of the Virgin of the rocks, preserved at the National Gallery in London. The artwork knew a remarkable fortune, as evidenced by the large number of copies made by Lombard artists. In the nineteenth century it was the most famous work of one of the most important collections of works of art in Milano, the one owned by the dukes Litta (from which derives the nickname with which the painting is known throughout the world).

Along with the Madonna Litta, around twenty paintings and drawings by Leonardo and his closest students will be on show.

The event is part of Leonardo 500, the schedule that celebrates the 500th anniversary of the death of the great genius.
