MITO SettembreMusica is back for the 13th year, one of the most anticipated music festivals in Italy that from September 3 to 19, 2019 will stage 128 appointments, with 7 first performances ever, 3 European premieres and 13 Italian premieres. Once again, Milano and Turin are ready to host some of the most important international musicians and the most influential musical forces of the two capitals, as well as proposing again the introductions to listening, widely appreciated in recent years.
The rich programme of the Festival includes great directors, such as Myung-Whun Chung, Yuri Temirkanov, Zubin Mehta, Marin Alsop, John Axelrod and Daniele Rustioni. Among the soloists there are Martha Argerich, Katia and Marielle Labèque, Alexander Romanovsky, Olli Mustonen, Giovanni Sollima, Daniel Müller-Schott, Mario Brunello, Rachel Harnisch, Nils Mönkemeyer, Sean Shibe, Tine Thing Helseth, Alessandro Taverna and the ensemble Third Coast Percussion. There will also be formations among the most renowned and prestigious both nationally and internationally, such as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rai National Symphony Orchestra, the La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra, the Teatro Regio of Turin Orchestra and the Verdi Orchestra of Milano.
The main theme of this edition will be “Geografie” ("Geographies"). In a global society like today, which has erased borders and promoted mobility, the traditional categories of cultural identity and geographical belonging have turned into fluid values in constant redefinition. In this scenario, music can help us reconstruct a connection between symbolic landscapes, emotions, spaces of life and memory, making a journey both physical and imaginary to discover places, traditions and languages that have marked the different cultures of the world.
