Piazza Vittorio Orchestra at Polimifest

An explosive concert

On
Politecnico di Milano
Piazza Leonardo da Vinci, 32

In the 19th century, clamours all around Naples streets were frequently interrupted by street musicians who often improvised the most famous Opera arias. Underprivileged audience relished all these open air performances, since people could not afford to buy theatre tickets.

If the 19th century were today, street musicians would be Piazza Vittorio Orchestra elements, a music project born in 2002 with thirteen members among voices, pianoforte, percussions, bass and drums. Among these instruments there is one called “oud”, a chordophone belonging to lutes family. An old legend narrates it comes from Persia and it was invented by Lamak, Adamo and Eva’s nephew. Whatever its origins, it arrives at Polimifest thanks to multiethnic nature of "Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio" that boasts excellent musicians coming from many world areas. During these seventeen years, Mario Tronco (Avion Travel Small Orchestra) and Agostino Ferrente’s (film producer) creation played more than a thousand concerts all over the world and it published five albums.

The Politecnico of Milano celebrates the end of the summer events' programme turning its square into a big arena where the Orchestra will play and interpret Don Giovanni, Carmen, Mozart's Magic Flute and some scores signed by Weill and Verdi. Let’s wait for an explosive concert.
