From March 27, 2019, will finally be presented to the public the preparatory cartoon of the School of Athens by Raffaello Sanzio.

This is the largest Renaissance cartoon that has come down to us, and is entirely made by Raphael as a life-size preparatory drawing of the School of Athens, one of the four frescoes commissioned in 1508 from Raphael by Pope Julius II to decorate the Stanza della Segnatura in the Vatican.

The work, the result of 4 years of restoration work, returns to the public at the Ambrosiana, which confirms to be a fundamental stage in an ideal "Renaissance tour" of Milan which, in a few square kilometers, allows the visit of some of the greatest works of the period:

  • Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper in Santa Maria delle Grazie
  • Michelangelo Buonarroti's Pietà Rondanini at the Castello Sforzesco
  • The preparatory cartoon of the School of Athens by Raphael at the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana
