On December the 7th, Milano celebrates Sant’Ambrogio, the patron saint of the city. It is one of the most important days of the year, it is the appointment among beautiful Milano streets illuminated by lights; the fir, placed in the heart of Duomo square, is decorated - this is the vivid atmosphere which anticipates Christmas. In this festive mood La Scala Theatre, a pivotal place of culture, one of the most important and well-known stages in the world, inaugurates its new theatre season with a different opera every year.

 

The city has been talking for months about the première, and tickets are already sold out. Expectations are huge. The entrance is a catwalk of elegant and refined evening dresses. Prominent personalities of entertainment, culture, fashion participate at this event. The gallery is full of curious eyes, ready to watch the most important show of the year. This year Tosca will inaugurate La Scala Theatre season 2019/2020. 

 

Riccardo Chailly, internationally renowned orchestra director, chooses Giacomo Puccini’s work, after having already conducted other operas like Turandot, La fanciulla del West, Madama Butterfly and Manon Lescaut. This opera will involve audience with the perfect words written by Giacosa and Illica, able to renew the historical feelings of the 19th century - a past that seems so far nowadays. Great expectations for the artistic duo composed by David Livermore, already very applauded for Attila the last year, and Giò Forma: they both represent the greatest signatures for successfull concerts' performances. In order to seal the realization of the work, on the stage there will be Anna Netrebko, Russian opera singer in the role of Tosca, and Francesco Meli, as the painter Mario Cavaradossi.

Simply, in December 7th La Scala Theatre is the right place to be.
