Interior spaces
The Basilica di San Simpliciano was built in the fourth century to the orders of the Bishop Ambrogio; the apse vault is decorated by the Incoronation of Mary, realized by Bergognone. Inside the lateral naves there are eight chapels; from the right-hand nave it is possible to access the Confessional Chapel (two steps, 12 cm). The other chapels are not open to visitors. On the left of the altar, three steps (15 cm) and a door (85 cm) lead to the apse; from here it can be reached the Shrine (Sacello) by an arch (120 cm) and 10 wooden steps (18 cm with handrails on both sides). On the right of the apse, three steps (20 cm) lead to the theca with the relics of Saint Simpliciano. Inside the church there are pews and chairs (h 46 cm).
