Parking
It is possible to park on the blue lines along Via San Vittore and Via Olona, too.
Groups of people with disability can ask to park in the courtyard (entrance from Via Olona), by calling: +39 02 48555411.

Information for visitors
Entrance free of charge for people with disability and for their companion.
It is possible to book guided tours for people with intellectual disability and for blind people.
Two manual wheelchairs are available.
Thanks to the project Scienzabile, the museum offers tours for children aged 6 to 10 with intellectual disability.
The application MuseoscienzApp can be downloaded free of charge and allows visitors to understand where they are within the museum, locating the various sections and services, and gives information on points of interest.
People with disability are allowed to bring their service animals.

 

Entrance
The main entrance is in Via San Vittore 21 and it is necessary to overcome the sidewalk step and then 2 series of 3 steps (15 cm e 18 cm), after which there is a wide automatic sliding door (116 cm).
Visitors with reduced mobility can use the gate on the left of the main entrance (use the bell at 86 cm from the ground to call the staff and get the gate open).

After overcoming a ramp (slope of 9%), you can use a platform lift (door width: 100 cm) to reach the M1 floor of the monumental building.

 

Reception
On the first floor of the monumental building (M1) there are:

  • The Infopoint (counter height 85 cm),
  • The ticket office (counter height 85 cm).

The museum staff is at your disposal for information and tourist reception services.

In the Olona pavilion (at the exit of the Museum) there is:

  • the “Must Shop” (counter height 105 cm)

 

Lift
Two lifts link the floors of the monumental building and have the following features:

  • door width: 90cm, cabin inner space 145 x 140 cm
  • push buttons panel with embossed Braille printing
  • visual signal of arrival at the floor.

The other lift has the following characteristics:

  • door width: 81 cm, cabin inner space 112 x 95 cm
  • push buttons panel with embossed Braille printing
  • visual signal of arrival at the floor.

1 lift connects the 2 floors of the Air and Naval pavilion and has the following characteristics:

  • door width: 100 cm; cabin inner space: 150x220 cm
  • push buttons panel with embossed Braille printing
  • visual signal of arrival at the floor.

 

Exhibition itinerary
The museum develops in 4 buildings and an open space; the main body of the museum is the Monumental building. The Museum is accessible to visitors with motor disabilities (except the Falck Room, the interior of the Toti Submarine and the Flight Simulator).
The M1 floor of the Monumental building hosts various permanent exhibitions including:
 the permanent exhibition "Extreme - particle physics" with the "Future Inventors" laboratory. To access the laboratory, it is necessary to go through a double-leaf door (90 cm wide each).
The permanent exhibition “Nutrition - #Food People” has interactive touch screen stations located at a maximum height of 73 cm, the auditorium (6 steps that can be overcome with a stairlift for wheelchairs) and 6 interactive workshops.
All areas of the M1 floor are wheelchair accessible.

The M2 floor of the Monumental building hosts various permanent exhibitions including:
the permanent exhibition "Leonardo's Galleries" inaugurated in 2019, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of his death. It is an exhibition on the genius of Leonardo that ends with a perspective on Leonardo Da Vinci's influence on Lombard Renaissance painting. It is accessible for disabled visitors;
The permanent exhibition “Fragility and Beauty”: through the images on display, the visitor embarks on a journey to explore the most extraordinary and remote places on Earth; the exhibition is completely accessible.
The permanent exhibition "Telecommunications" with the exhibition of tools and machinery to orient oneself in time and history of telecommunications up to the most recent digital transformations. The interactive touch stations of the exhibition are positioned at variable heights, making it easier for children and wheelchair users to use them.
The permanent exhibition "Space" presents original and unpublished objects and offers interactive experiences.
There are various interactive touch stations at variable heights to facilitate use.
On the M2 floor there are 2 interactive workshops accessible to people with disabilities.

On the M0 floor, you can visit the Falck room where a steel factory from 1950 has been recreated.
To visit the exhibition area you must overcome 1 step (13 cm) followed by 20 steps (19 cm each, handrail on the left). The Falck Area is not accessible to wheelchair users.

From the M0 floor you can also access the railway pavilion, after a short walk outdoors, overcoming an inclined ramp (slope of 14%) and a double-leaf door (188 cm). The internal paths of the pavilion has no obstacles to mobility.
On the left side of the railway pavilion, a slightly sloping external path allows you to admire the Toti submarine, the Vega Launcher and some jet planes.

On the M0 floor there are 3 interactive workshops accessible to people with disabilities.

Blind people can access the submarine by sending an email to: infototi@museoscienza.it at least one   week before their visit in order to be able to organize it in the best possible way. The inside of the submarine cannot be visited by people with motor disabilities.

From the railway pavilion, you can reach the Air and naval pavilion by overcoming 2 steps or via an inclined ramp, with a slightly sloping path.
The ground floor of the Air and naval pavilion houses one of the most important naval collections in Italy, the air transport section is located on the 1st floor.
From the Air and naval Pavilion you enter the Olona pavilion, overcoming an inclined ramp (slope of 21%) followed by a manual hinged door (90 cm). The pavilion develops on a single floor and is used for events and temporary exhibitions. From the Olona Pavilion you can access the “Must Shop”. 

The museum visit ends at the Olona pavilion. To exit the pavilion, you need to go through a door (118 cm) and overcome 3 steps (18 cm).
People with disabilities can use a lifting platform with the following characteristics:
 • door width 100 cm, cabin: inner space 86x122 cm.

 

Picnic Area
On the M0 floor of the monumental building of the Museum, you can find a snack area and a picnic area where it is possible to have a packed lunch. The area is equipped with tables (clear space underneath: 73 cm) and chairs as well as vending machines for snacks and drinks. Child seats are available and there is also a stroller area.
The space is open during the Museum's opening hours.

 

Orientation signage

In the building there are:

  • directional arrows with large and high-contrast lettering (at least 7 cm)
  • high contrast symbols indicating toilet facilities, positioned at eye level, using medium to large size letters.

 

Toilet facilities
Four toilets accessible to people with disabilities are located in the Monumental pavilion. The one on the M1 floor has the following characteristics:

  • dressing room with door (126 cm wide)
  • toilet door: 90 cm wide
  • wall-mounted washbasin (clear floor area: in front: 130 cm)
  • floor-standing toilet (clear floor area: in front 110 cm, on the right side 190 cm, on the left side 22 cm, horizontal handlebar on the right-hand side).

The toilet on the M2 floor, located in the permanent exhibition "Le Gallerie di Leonardo", has the following characteristics:

  • dressing room with door (132 cm wide)
  • Baby changing table
  • toilet door: 80 cm wide
  • wall-mounted washbasin (clear floor area: in front: 120 cm)
  • floor-standing toilet, (clear floor area: in front 80 cm, on the right side 90 cm, on the left side 24 cm, horizontal handle on both sides)
     

The toilet located in the Picnic area has the following characteristics:

  • toilet door: 90 cm wide
  • suspended washbasin
  • floor-standing toilet (clear floor area: in front 104 cm, on the right side 23 cm, on the lef side 90 cm, horizontal handlebar on left-hand side)
  • Baby changing table

Two toilets, accessible to people with disabilities, are located in the air and naval pavilion on the ground floor and on the first floor. They have the following characteristics:

  • dressing room door: 90 cm wide
  • toilet door: 90 cm wide
  • wall-mounted washbasin (clear floor area: in front: 154 cm)
  • floor-standing toilet (clear floor area: in front: 131 cm, on the right side 28 cm, on the left side 160 cm; handles on the left side).

A toilet equipped for visitors with disabilities is located in the Olona pavilion, next to the Must Shop. It has the following characteristics:

  • dressing room and toilet with sliding door (90 cm wide)
  • wall-mounted washbasin (clear floor area: in front: 170 cm)
  • floor-standing toilet (clear floor area: in front 90 cm, on the right side 190 cm, on the left side 27 cm, horizontal handlebar on the right-hand side)
  • Baby changing table

 

Safety exits
Emergency routes are well indicated. The building has an acoustic alarm device.
