Milano is the italian capital for ADR and this favors inbound investments.
The Milan Chamber of Arbitration (CAM) is a registered company owned by the Milano Monza Brianza Lodi Chamber of Commerce. Since 1985, it has employed Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) tools such as arbitration and mediation to address commercial litigation. To date, CAM has managed over 14,000 mediations and solved 2,800 domestic and international disputes through arbitration. In 2021, 123 new arbitration requests were filed at the Milan Chamber of Arbitration, with an average value of proceedings at around €4 million, while over 1,000 commercial mediation applications were filed, mostly on lending contracts and intellectual property. In three years, arbitration applications filed with CAM have grown by 21% and in the first five months of this year (2022), they have increased by 27% compared to the same period of last year.
ADR offers companies a rapid and effective response in the management of national and transnational commercial disputes. And the Milan Chamber of Arbitration has instituted a fast and efficient justice system, with reasonable times (170 days on average for simplified arbitration proceedings, 119 days for mediation) and clear and limited costs, something which promotes Milan’s attractiveness as an FDI destination and frees up resources of companies based in Milan to do what they do best: work and innovate.
