The city’s 2023 sporting events calendar is packed with competitions at the highest world levels, culminating in July with the Senior World Fencing Championships. 12 months of sporting skills and passion with major fixtures for football, tennis and marathons. Check out the most important dates.
The 114th edition of the Milano - Sanremo men's road cycling race, also known as the Classicissima di primavera, will set off from Milan on March 18th. As part of the UCI World Tour, and one of the most important racing circuits worldwide, the competition will feature 175 professional competitors representing 25 teams (7 riders per team).
The race will start from Abbiategrasso (town near Milan), and will conclude with a spectacular finale on the historic Via Roma finish line in Sanremo, covering the traditional route that comprises the Passo del Turchino, Capi, Cipressa and Poggio (the last uneven terrain that the cyclists will encounter) for a total itinerary of 293 km. The participants will face numerous challenges during the race that will maintain the competitivity level at its peak right up until the last stretch.
The most famous non-competitive race in Italy is back; Stramilano is everyone’s race!
Every year it involves more than 50,000 people from all over the world.
Athletes, families and fans of all ages will invade the streets of the city for a day of unforgettable moments of sport and fun.
In 2023, the Milano Marathon will celebrate the 21st edition of the popular event aimed at professional athletes, runners of all abilities and families, which will confirm the city as the capital of running. The seventh edition of the children’s race - LEVISSIMA SCHOOL MARATHON - committed to promoting sustainable values, is scheduled for Saturday April 1st in City Life over a 3-kilometre route, in collaboration with OPES (Sports Education Organisation).
This initiative for primary and secondary school pupils in Milan is enhanced by a fun and informative itinerary aimed at raising awareness on the importance of outdoor activities which are the basis of a healthy lifestyle, and on the values of sport and the marathon.
ROUTE
The circular 42.195 km route will depart from and arrive in the city centre (Corso Venezia), next to the Montanelli Gardens. It will be similar to the 2019 route, with almost 18 kilometres within the cerchia dei Bastioni inner ring road, in the heart of the city - around the areas of Repubblica, Moscova, Parco Sempione, Duomo, Cairoli, Cordusio and Pagano - and for almost 28 km inside the tram route ring road. The runners are scheduled to pass by the City Life and north-west area (Portello, Hippodrome, San Siro, Parco di Trenno and Gallaratese).
The Autodromo Nazionale Monza, aka the Monza Circuit, is a top destination for all motor enthusiasts and will not only host the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix, but also the MIMO Milano Monza Motor Show, a unique event for automobile and motorcycle enthusiasts in limited edition.
Lots of models will be on display from every segment and market category with a large test drive area, an instructive technological area for enthusiasts to familiarise themselves with plug-in electric and hybrid vehicles and to trial the vehicle's charging stations, but undoubtedly one of the highlights will be the Indy Autonomous Challenge, a pilotless self-driving racing car challenge that is held between 9 teams from 17 universities from 6 countries around the world.
Also competing is the single-seater with an AI driver developed at the Milan Polytechnic by the PoliMOVE team, which just celebrated a historical victory at the Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC) race in Las Vegas on January 8th , 2023.
The Italian stage of the World Cup will start on Friday July 21st, at the Mediolanum Forum in Assago. All the competitions will be broadcast live, starting with the All-Around qualifiers on Friday and Saturday, on the Italian Gymnastics Federation’s YouTube channel.
The FIE FENCING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS Milan 2023 are ready to start: the world’s top male and female athletes, from over 100 different countries, will descend on the Allianz MICO platform to compete in the foil, epee and sabre categories, both individually and in teams.
The sporting action starts on July 22nd with the individual men's sabre and the women's epee preliminary rounds. The event will then wrap up with the men's foil and the women's sabre team finals on July 30th.
Piazza Sempione, at the foot of the Arco della Pace, will become the Medal Plaza: a place to celebrate the champions and to enjoy the atmosphere.
The 24-team format and an itinerant tournament have been confirmed. Italy will host one of the four groups, the other three groups are allocated to Belgium, Estonia and Germany, whilst the semi-finals and finals will be played entirely in Belgium.
The 2023 Women's European Championship arrives at the Monza Arena, with the success of the 2021 European Championships still fresh in the memory: the women's final between Italy and Serbia in Belgrade set a new attendance record (20,565 spectators)!
Italy is part of Pool B together with Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina and Switzerland.
The women’s tournament will be held in Italy - at Monza, Florence, Turin and Verona - from August 15th to September 3rd , the Italian players are super favourites in the direct elimination matches between Pool B and Pool D.
The Snai San Siro racecourse, a structure that combines history, tradition and modernity in the center of Milan in an evocative and unrivaled mix, is preparing to host the most awaited event on the 2023 international equestrian sports calendar from August 30th to September 3rd, 2023: the FEI European Show Jumping Championship.
The city confirms itself as the ideal stage for any type of international event, revealing its ambition and interest in hosting the biggest sporting events and demonstrating organizational management skills and great accommodation availability.
The Snai San Siro appointment will have added value, for the best in continental show jumping, as it will also serve as a qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Italian leg of the 94th edition of the Italian Grand Prix will take place from September 1st - 3rd, 2023 at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza.

The Duomo, Parco Sempione, Castello Sforzesco, the Darsena and Monte Napoleone are the stages of a route that winds through the streets of the historic city centre.
The Premier Padel P1 tournament comes to Milan in December, with which the official world professional circuit concludes its 2023 season. The competition will be played in the Allianz Cloud arena which, one month after the Next Gen ATP Finals, will return to host another international sporting event.
