Are you yearning for a day trip to the ski slopes near Milano? There are plenty of great places, easily accessible by car or public transport.

The showpiece of the Central Alps is undoubtedly the Valtellina, a beautiful wide valley surrounded by the region’s main ski resorts: Madesimo, Aprica, Valmalenco, Bormio and Santa Caterina Valfurva.

Madesimo is one of the most attractive ski resorts in Lombardy, and it can be reached by bus. It boasts modern and efficient ski lifts with 50 km of slopes that also extend to Campodolcino, Motta and Val di Lei. The ski runs for beginners are blue, those for intermediate skiers red and authentic challenges are available for the more expert. For those traveling from/to Bergamo Orio al Serio, Milano Linate or Milano Malpensa (whether individuals or groups) a transfer service is available to/from the Alta Valtellina. This service has two different lines connecting  the Orio al Serio and Malpensa airports to Alta Valtellina.

The nearby Bergamo area welcomes ski lovers in the enchanting Val Brembana resorts: Foppolo, Valtorta and Piazzatorre.

For those who wish to dedicate at least a weekend to Nordic skiing, Schilpario in Val di Scalve (also reachable by bus) offers graded ski tracks and has been approved for international competitions. The Pista degli Abeti winds for an adventurous 12 km through an enchanted pine forest.

Pila is the largest ski area in Valle D'Aosta and you can hit the slopes from Milan in about two hours. This panoramic ski resort overlooks the town of Aosta and offers 70 km of ski runs and an impressive view of the main Aosta Valley snow-capped peaks, from Mount Rosa to Mount Blanc.
