Urban public transport accessibility: underground

The Milano underground network consists of four lines: red M1, green M2, yellow M3, blue M4 and lilac M5.

The three most recent lines (M3, M4 and M5) are all equipped with accessible lifts connecting the road surface with the turnstiles (mezzanine) and the latter with the tracks.

Only few stations of the M1 and M2 lines are equipped with elevators; some are equipped with a stairlift (for wheelchairs that do not exceed 200 kg) while others only have escalators.

At the entrance turnstiles, there is a passage reserved for people with disabilities, located next to the station operator's cabin.

The stations are equipped with orientation signs, to direct travelers to escalators and lifts.

Only some stations of the M1, M2 and M3 lines have tactile pavings and tactile maps, while all the stations of the M4 and M5 lines are equipped with those facilities.

You can download a file with information on elevators, escalators and stairlifts in the underground stations here.

All M3, M4 and M5 stations have accessible toilets for people with disabilities, while only some M1 and M2 stations have accessible toilets.
