From Italy to the world!!! Fashion Film Festival Milano, an inclusive international fashion and culture event founded and directed by Constanza Etro, celebrates its seventh edition with a strong sense of resilience keeping on supporting young talents all around the world. The FFFMilano goes digital in collaboration with the Italian Fashion Council during Milano Fashion Week Men’s Collection from January 13th to 19th, 2021.

 

The Italian Fashion Council and Fashion Film Festival Milano, two leading realities in the international fashion industry, come together in a long-term partnership aimed at creating a system and enhance the exposure of the “Made in Italy” abroad, within an international framework that is contemporary, digital and avant-garde. Thanks to the global network that FFFMilano has built in 7 years, this partnership will ensure that the contents of young designers and established brands will have maximum exposure in a top level global context.

 

FASHION FILM FESTIVAL MILANO 2021 DIGITAL EDITION

The seventh edition will run on three platforms simultaneously: the CNMI digital platform, the festival’s official site and the prestigious streaming platform MyMovies.it.

It starts on January 13th at 6 PM with an opening curated by Constanza Cavalli Etro and Maria Gloria Cappelletti on Instagram.

1. CONTEST SECTION:

Every day, from January 13th to 18th, 2021, you can follow on cameramoda.it the official selection of this edition that features more than 200 fashion films in competition selected among over 1000 fashion films received through a completely free registration. With participants from 60 countries, (Iceland, India, Singapore, Colombia, Brazil, China, Vietnam, Mexico, just to name a few), FFFMilano has become a true cultural bridge between different communities, an inclusive initiative that promotes diversity, different aesthetics codes and languages. Also, thanks to the festival’s philosophy, “The Big helps the Small” you will have the chance to watch the works by the big names in fashion and filmmaking such as Matteo Garrone, Dior, Gucci, Hérmes, Fendi, Trussardi, Burberry, Fabien Baron, Haiko Keinath, Jacob Sutton, and many others, alongside emerging young talents in the same digital window.

 

As per tradition, the prestigious International Jury, called upon to evaluate the films in competition, is made up of prominent members of the world of fashion, film and art:

  • Tim Yip, Director, Art director and Academy Award winner costume designer

  • Lachlan Watson, American actor 

  • Marcelo Burlon, Creative director

  • Anna Dello Russo, journalist and influencer

  • Milovan Farronato, curator

  • Javier Goyeneche, founder of the sustainable brand Ecoalf

  • Margherita Missoni, designer

  • Paolo Roversi, photographer

  • Elizabeth Von Guttman, founder of System Magazine

  • Tamu McPherson, influencer

 

Democratic Online Vote: Peoples Choice Award

The public will also be able to vote for their favorite films, thanks to the free digital vote available on the Festival’s official website fffmilano.com providing the winner of the Peoples Choice Award. You too can vote for your favourite fashion film from January 13th to 18th!

Also, for this edition, the awards are designed by Italian artist Barnaba Fornasetti who, following the spirit of this new online streaming format, has revisited the awards on a digital perspective, a unique award all the winners. FFFMilano 2021 Digital Awards Winners & Nominees will be presented on Thursday January 19, 2021.

2. OFF CONTEST SECTION: SUMMARY

Every day, from January 13 to 19, 2021 on cameramoda.it there will be six Conversations with prominent personalities, five Premiers of Feature Films and two special projects now pillars of the Off Contest section: #FFFMilanoForGreen and #FFFMilanoForWomen.

Thanks to #FFFMilanoForGreen, for the fifth year the Festival continues its mission to promote and educate towards sustainability, showcasing the brands, designers and institutions that are at the forefront to support a sustainable lifestyle.

In addition, #FFFMilanoForWomen is another important project that has defined the Festival to support and promote female talent, giving space and voice to social projects, directors, designers, entrepreneurs and activists.

3. CONVERSATIONS

The Conversations are on-demand events scheduled from January 13th to 18th.

 

ConversationMeet the Jury: Tim Yip (Eng) -  The Chinese director, art director and costume designer, winner of the Academy Award for the film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” directed by Ang Lee, talks about himself in an open dialogue with the curator of the Festival, Gloria Maria Cappelletti, editor-at-large and creative director at i-D Magazine.

 

Conversation #FFFMilanoForWomen: “The Future of Fashion: Anna dello Russo” (Ita) - The journalist and influencer, icon and reference point of the international fashion system, examines with the director of the Festival, Constanza Etro, and the journalist Angelo Ruggeri, the state of current fashion, the consequences of the pandemic and the importance of the digital world.

 

Conversation #FFFMilanoForGreen: "Javier Goyeneche - Upcycling Nature, How to create a new fashion system to guarantee environmental and social justice (Eng) - The founder of the Ecoalf brand, a pioneer and activist of sustainable fashion and lifestyle, and the sustainable fashion expert Hakan Karaosman, tell the audience about their experiences. This talk will analyze in depth today’s sustainability, not only in the textile sector but also in the human–nature relationship.

 

Conversation #FFFMilanoForWomen: Girls in Film - Filmmaking: finding your visual language (Eng) - Women directors from all over the world discuss their influences and how they found their visual identity. The Festival collaborates with the collective of female directors, Girls in Film, to create a comparison between female directors from different parts of the world, on the importance of having an authentic visual language, and on fundamental issue of gender representation in the film industry.

 

Conversation with Frederic Tcheng (Eng) - FFFMilano presents an exclusive conversation with director Frederic Tcheng on the occasion of the Italian Première of his latest film, Halston, featured at the Festival on Wednesday, January, 13th, 2021 on MyMovies.it. The award-winning director of masterpieces such as “Valentino: The Last Emperor” and “Dior & I”, will talk about himself, giving insights and details on the making of the film, his brilliant career in fashion and film, and his personal passions.

 

Conversation with Reiner Holzemer (Eng) FFFMilano meets the German director Reiner Holzemer, who will talk about the unique encounter with Martin Margiela that led him to make the exclusive documentary “Martin Margiela: In His Own Words” in which the Belgian designer opens up for the first time. With the director we will talk about his inspirations and his career that led him to explore the fashion world in 2017 with the documentary “Dries”, about the designer Dries Van Noten.

 

Conversation with Tim Yip and Pandemonia (Eng) -  The director and juror at FFFMilano meets the London-based artist Pandemonia in a dialogue that will transport the public to Yip’s creative universe, with a particular focus on his latest film, “Love Infinity.

4. FEATURE FILMS

The Festival presents an interest program of feature films dedicated to the story of unique personalities and important social issues in collaboration with MyMovies.it.

 

  • Wednesday January 13th 9PM - Italian Première + Introduction by the director - Halston” directed by Frédéric Tcheng. The Festival features the Italian première of the latest work of the director of masterpieces as “Valentino: The Last Emperor” and “Dior & I”. After the screening, you can listen to the director give insights and details on the making of the film.

 

  • Thursday January 14th 9PM - Italian Première + Introduction by the director - Made in Bangladesh directed by Rubaiyat Hossain. As part of the initiative #FFFMILANOFORGREEN the Festival features this social realist drama about retailers exploiting garment workers to get more and more profits. The film will be introduced by the director.

 

  • Friday January 15th 9PM - The documentary (English + Italian subtitles), included in #FFFMILANOFORGREEN, "I am Greta" (2020) directed by Nathan Grossman, which traces Greta Thunberg's actions of to combat climate change.

 

  • Saturday January 16th 9PM - Italian Première + Introduction by the director - “Martin Margiela: In His Own Words” directed by Reiner Holzemer. FFFMilano features an exclusive first time documentary of the Belgium fashion designer in which he opens up about his life, work & legacy. The screenings will be followed by a talk with the director Reiner Holzemer.

 

  • Sunday January 17th 9PM - Italian Première “Let It Be Law directed by Juan Solanas. As part of the initiative #FFFMILANOFORWOMEN, the Festival features this important work, presented at Cannes, about the struggle for legal abortion rights in Argentina. A documentary which aims to break down cultural stigmas and bring greater freedom and awareness of gender issues internationally. The screening will be introduced by director Juan Solanas.

 

  • January 13th/89th - #FFFMILANOFORGREEN - Special screening on demand of the short film The Time is Now! New Citizen 1.5” (Ita + Eng sub). The IED - Istituto Europeo di Design, CID - Consorzio Italiano Implementazione Detox and Greenpeace Italia, present the development of the project started in 2018, The Time is Now!, an expression of sustainable fashion. A selection of IED Italia students from the Schools of Fashion, Design and Communication worked in synergy on the identity of the contemporary citizen to create 7 characters that represent the languages ​​and styles of different worlds. This gave birth to 7 capsule collections complete with product design concepts conceived for the Greenpeace Green Market, capable of guiding sustainable behavior in their future use. The short film “The Time Is Now! New Citizen 1.5 was directed by Daniel Fazio, Loft Films Ltd's Founder and Creative Director.
