For the first time, masterpieces made by great Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and avant-garde masters of the early 20th century, such as Paul Cezanne, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Edouard Manet, Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh and 13 works by Pablo Picasso, will arrive in Europe from the Guggenheim Museum in New York. This represents a unique opportunity to appreciate one of the most prestigious collections in the world at Palazzo Reale from October 17 to March 1, 2020, thanks to the Guggenheim. The Thannhauser Collection, from Van Gogh to Picasso exhibition.
After the stop-over at the Guggenheim in Bilbao and in Aix En Provence, the almost 50 masterpieces - mostly from the extraordinary Thannhauser Collection - will arrive at Palazzo Reale before returning to the Guggenheim in New York, where they are permanently exhibited in a designated room since the family of Heinrich Thannhauser, with his son Justin, donated them in 1965.
Among these works of exceptional value and importance, Pablo Picasso, Justin Thannhauser's close friend, deserves a separate chapter: The Lobster and the Cat (1965) was a wedding present for the Thannhauser couple. In fact, it shows an affectionate dedication from the artist to his friend.
