Miart, the Milano trade fair for modern and contemporary art, enters in its 28th edition, which will be held from 12 to 14 April 2024.

The title of this year is “no time no space”, because the theme of the fair is going beyond borders and opening up to new worlds, not only in space but also in time.

The international art fair returns to the Allianz-MiCo Center (M5 Portello) and will see the participation of 181 galleries from 28 countries and 10 prizes to be awarded during the days of the three days of theexhibition. There are new and old international presences in addition to the core of Italian galleries, representing over half of the exhibitors and providing a unique look at Italian contemporary art and contemporary artists.

Collectors and art enthusiasts will find a rich and lively program, which aims to talk to the present through a journey that mingles past, present and future, in a search for what is timeless in modern art.

The sections

miart 2024 is divided into three sections (plus one):

Established – this remains the main section, devoted to Italian art galleries, providing the departing point of the fair. In addition to the confirmations of previous years, a significant increase in galleries coming from abroad broadens and enriches the offer, confirming the theme of overcoming borders.

Emergent – this space is reserved for galleries that pursue research and experimentation done by young generations of artists and will welcome 23 experiences from all over the world.

Portal – this section is new to this edition, with twelve galleries hosting ten art exhibits which, despite their small dimensions, leading to the discovery of artistic practices and universes apparently distant in space and time.

To these three spaces, must be added Timescape, a thematic path that will develop over the next three years to bring to the fair and its visitors also artworks that were created in distant eras: the galleries participating in this section will display exhibits broadening the historical arc of the fair with works, artifacts and art objects from various epochs.

miart invades the city

The fair is made of various projects that create a bridge with the city and its cultural life.

An important one is “Comets. Vanguards of another solar system”, a program of screenings of films made by artists, done in collaboration with Careof, the research and production center for time-based media, galleries taking part in miart, and the Municipality of Milano which has made its collections available. The presentation of Comets will take place at the Anteo Movie Palace (M2/M5 Garibaldi FS), together with a calendar of talks with the artists involved.

Then there is the site-specific project in the BiM spaces of the Bicocca District, a major performative installation by the American conceptual artist David Horvitz.

Milano Art Week

miart arrives in the city accompanied by the Milano Art Week, a week of guided tours, extraordinary openings and inaugurations of new artexhibits which involving art museums and cultural institutions in the city.

Many of initiatives originating in the context of miart will cross over the Milano Design Week, the following week of April, with design itineraries going through the Milanese art galleries in conjunction with Salone del Mobile, the world’s most important fair for interior design.
