Entrance
After a gate (240 cm wide) you enter the main entrance, consisting of a double-leaf door (100 cm wide each). The museum is on the second floor of the house: it can be reached via an elevator, preceded by 5 consecutive steps (h 16 cm), one more step (h 15 cm) and 6 flights of stairs for a total of 50 steps (h 13 cm).
Reception
The museum staff is at your disposal for information and reception services.
A manual wheelchair is available to visitors.
Lift
The lift has the following characteristics:
- door width 70 cm (cabin inner space 120x70 cm)
- lift push button panel not embossed at a maximum height of 160 cm
- velvet sofa (seat height: 44 cm).
Exhibition itinerary
The museum house is located in the premises that were inhabited by Antonio Boschi and Marieda di Stefano, a married couple, where you can admire a selection of works of art from their collection (sculptures, paintings, canvases, objects and works by famous artists of the twentieth century), donated to the Municipality of Milan in 1974. The museum itinerary (floor 2) develops in 11 rooms through a circular path. The rooms are large and free of obstacles.

The toilet is located at the end of the exhibition itinerary and has the following characteristics:

Information for visitors
Thanks to the collaboration of volunteers, blind or visually impaired people can reserve a visit to discover a selection of objects of the collection and personal belongings of the poet.
Entrance
The main entrance, which is used for temporary exhibitions, has 1 step (2 cm high) and a hinged door (86 cm wide). Access to Spazio Ada Merini is normally from the entrance to the Literary Cafe situated about 5 metres to the right from the main entrance. The entrance to the Literary Cafe is a two-leaf gate (94 cm and 61 cm), leading to the canopied outside area, followed by a 1 cm step and a double leaf door (88 cm wide each). The bar is linked to the exhibition area by a stairway or, alternatively, by a stair lift.
Reception
The hall contains:
- the ticket office (counter height 89 cm)
- the information desk (counter height 89 cm).
The museum staff is at your disposal for information and tourist reception services.
Exhibition layout
Casa delle Arti-Spazio Alda Merini is located in a former tobacconist's shop in Via Magolfa. The exhibition area, on the first floor, can be reached by 23 steps (17 cm high each) avoidable using a stair lift (to get the key, please refer to the ticket office).
There you can find a reconstruction of Alda Merini's bedroom, with furniture and personal belongings from her home at Ripa Ticinese 47.
The area in front of the bedroom has panels (h 100 cm), with poems, portraits, biographical notes.The room is used for temporary exhibitions and meetings.

The literary café, on the ground floor, has a canopied outside area (30 seats) and is furnished with square tables with a single central leg (clear space below: 74 cm). The internal part of the cafeteria (counter heights 105 and 113 cm) consists of a small hall with 3 round tables with central leg (clear space below: 74 cm).

Emergency routes are well indicated. There is an acoustic alarm system.

The main entrance has one step (5 cm) and a hinged door (87 cm wide). The gate to the courtyard is opened for visitors on a wheelchair (width: 250 cm; bell height: 110 cm) and from here it is possible to visit Manzoni and Tommaso Grossi's studios, that are both accessible.

Exhibition itinerary
The museum is sited in an historic building, where Alessandro Manzoni lived since 1814 until his death in 1873. It is divided into 10 sections retracing, through works of art and furniture in the rooms, the different moments in the life of the writer.
The exhibition itinerary develops on the first floor. You reach the first floor by 4 flights of stairs (32 steps each, handrail on the right side) or by lift. All the museum rooms are wide, but there are no seats; captions are in Italian and in English, placed at different heights.
On the first floor you can visit the “Galleria degli ex voto dipinti di fede”, an exhibition of votive tablets and paintings from XV to XIX centuries.
The entrance to the exhibition has a hinged door (width: 100 cm), all rooms are wide and accessible.
On the ground floor, after the ticket office, a step (5 cm high) and a passageway (100 cm wide) lead to the area used for temporary exhibitions where you can find a video room with 40 seats (entrance with a double leaf door, 50 cm wide each).

From the street, a broad opening (390 cm wide) leads to the inner courtyard. 4 metres further on there is a barrier at the vehicle entrance, with a pedestrian opening to the left (98 cm wide).
The pathway runs for 10 metres along the left-hand side of the courtyard. The entrance has two consecutive double hinged doors (the first with door panels of 83 cm each, and the second 107 cm each).
Facilities
Base Milano contains:

Exhibition layout
Base is a project for culture and creativity in Milan, which is located in the restructured former warehouse of the Ansaldo steelworks. It houses cultural initiatives and events in the figurative publishing, and other cultural and creative industries, including quality arts and crafts, innovation and technology.
Access to the exhibition space is by 7 steps (h 15 cm), with a handrail to the left at a height of 100 cm. Alternatively, a lift platform is available (door 77 cm wide, internal space 128x80 cm).
The exhibition space is located beyond the co-working space and bar/cafe, with access through a 178 cm wide opening.
Bathroom facilities
The two disabled bathrooms are located at the end of the exhibition route. Both of them have the following fittings:
- hinged door 90 cm wide
- suspended washbasin (space in front 132 cm)
- floor-standing toilet bowl (space in front 190 cm, to the right 122 cm, to the left 27 cm, horizontal handle to the right).
Bar/Cafe
The bar/cafe in the spacious main hall of Spazio Base Milano has a bar counter (h 78 cm) and is furnished with four-legged square and rectangular tables (space below h 65 cm).

Exhibition layout
The museum is arranged over a three level opening, with two naves off to the sides. The black painted ceilings contrast with the grey concrete floors and the steel structures of the attic areas and all the electrical, heating and lighting systems are on view. The central stairway connects the four floors and highlights the imposing size of the building.
All 4 exhibition floors (0, 1, 2 and 3) are accessible.
The ground floor hosts temporary exhibitions of photos, architecture and design. The exhibition area is wide and accessible.
The second and third floors house a selection of the creations by Giorgio Armani from 1980 to the present time.
On the third floor, it is possible to visit the digital archive, where the design stages of the models can be reconstructed to see the creative process in the making. Access to the archive is free (reservation is recommended).
There are 8 stations with monitors (maximum height: 82 cm) and 10 touch screen tables (maximum height: 85 cm) with videos in Italian and English of the collections on display. In the projection area (passageway 130 cm wide), films of the fashion parades are presented (some of them have audio in Italian with subtitles in Italian and English, some with only a musical soundtrack and no words). There are around 40 chairs in the hall (seat height: 48 cm). A background music accompanies the visit.

Cafeteria
The Cafeteria is on the ground floor, in front of the ticket office. It is spacious (40 covers) and furnished with square, four-legged tables (clear space below 66 cm). A hinged door (125 cm wide) leads to the outside area (40 covers), furnished with square, four-legged tables (clear space below 67 cm).
Vegetarian and vegan menus are available.
Emergency exits
Emergency routes are well indicated. The alarm device is visual and acoustic.
