I Dodici Gatti - Pizza in Galleria

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (corner of Piazza della Scala)

Check out this unique pizzeria located right in the centre of Milan, in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The venue’s name derives from a heart-warming story of collaboration between private individuals and the Municipality of Milan in order to protect a feline colony. Once upon a time there was an elderly lady who resided in one of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II attics. She used to feed the pigeons and a pair of black cats that roamed freely on the rooftops. Eventually the woman became too old to continue living so high up and had to leave the attic but the cats remained where they were happy. They were too wild and too wary to be caught but totally dismissive of any danger and bold enough to venture out frequently through the warehouses of the shops in the Gallery. The two old cats extended their family and a colony of twelve black cats now live on the Gallery rooftops. With great enthusiasm, the building administrators - together with the Municipality of Milan and associations for the protection of animals - made a commitment to contribute to their maintenance, leaving them ample space and tranquillity. So, by opting to eat here you are contributing to their care and, above all, to their freedom!
